Tabitha van den Berg

Working together is very easy when everything is going well. But if there is a problem or hassle, you often don’t understand each other. As a mediator, I take the sting out of the conflict.”

In mediation, with a little help, people explore where things chafe. Together we look at what is desirable and (still) possible for the future. I do so in a decisive and warm manner. Involved and with a touch of humor. When a mediator can skillfully, firmly and impartially guide a process, with respect and space for all that matters, room for solutions is created.

Background

After studying Law, Tabitha worked abroad for several years in the field of international/intercultural cooperation. Since 2012, she has been working as a (legal) mediator in labor and business issues and certified external confidential advisor. Tabitha has a special affinity for social and cultural organizations and issues in which autism is involved or suspected. She also works as a team coach during reorganizations or difficult professional collaborations. Tabitha has served as a volunteer for many years with the Better Neighbors Foundation, as a director in community organizations and is an editorial board member of Kluwer Journal of Conflict Management.

Experience

Since 2014, I have had the opportunity to mediate in hundreds of conflicts in both Dutch and English. I work primarily in conflicts between professionals, sometimes on court or tribunal referral. Some examples:

  • A conflict over communication and manners in an international company in the tech industry;
  • Counseling teams around difficult collaboration in (multiple) hospitals/healthcare facilities;
  • Supervision of stalled reintegration pathways in primary, secondary and higher education;
  • Mediation in escalated conflicts between business owner(s) and government/neighborhood regarding permits;
  • Mediation in the management of a family business with the statutory director (not family);
  • Mediation after complaint resolution about alleged borderline behavior;
  • mediation between principals and parents at an elementary school (over 15) following tensions incurred during the COVID pandemic;
  • mediation processes where increased mental vulnerability or chronic illness requires new arrangements within the working relationship.
  • Mediation/ dialogue guidance within parent initiatives in care where course/vision and collaboration in practice requires recalibration.

Reviews

“I had never experienced mediation before, but will definitely recommend it to others in similar situations. And certainly won’t hesitate to refer them to you then! You did a pleasant, and neutral but involved job, always acting and communicating very precisely. My praise.”

“I kind of expected this to be the outcome. To me, you were reliable, calm and helped us keep our cool. Thank you for that.”

“I found you to be transparent, objective and driven to make sure the two parties provide answers and think about issues. You were engaged and process-oriented. Impartial and careful (e.g., by continuing to point out that the other party should seek legal advice).You get a big nine from me!”

“You remained independent and incisive. I thought you were very good.”

“Good introduction/preparation. I knew exactly where I stood. Mediator got to the point quickly and I knew where I stood throughout the process and what was expected of me. She was certainly impartial. Can listen well and knows how to articulate/summarize things well. Didn’t trump any of the parties. The air has cleared and we’re back at it together.”
